Art Therapy and Social Skills Development:
Art therapy is an established mental health profession that uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. It is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight (American Art Therapy Association).
Art therapy utilizes the creative process which increases flexibility in thinking and in turn promotes adaptability in social responses. Participation in creative experiences decreases rigidity in social behavior and broadens the social repertoire, which is unique within the therapeutic community.

Individual Therapy:
Sessions focus on assisting the individual to identify and explore feelings, behaviors, and interpersonal relationships. Art acts as a catalyst for self-expression, development of insight, awareness, and skill development.

Family Therapy:
Using art activities in family sessions increases communication and negotiation skills within the family system. Members identify and express feelings and perceptions providing a deeper understanding of family dynamics. This strengthens the family environment increasing acceptance and responsiveness.

Parent Child Sessions:
The focus is to facilitate positive parent child interactions using creative art experiences to promote the development of communication, emotional expression, and skill development. Sessions include creation of tangible tools to use at home to practice and integrate skills learned. These techniques and art experiences assist in strengthening the parent child bond. This program typically focuses on children ages 3 to 7.
